Cedar creek was the first layout built by the American section of the HWDMRS under the Stage of Downley Village Hall. It was built by the original 4 members of the N scale section - Eric Claydon, Rod Coombs, Dave Fryer and Ray Hamilton.

Due to various problems, the layout was moved out of the Village Hall and placed in Ray Hamilton's garage to finish the scenery before its first outing to the 1973 Beaconsfield Model Railway Club's exhibition. In true layout style the scenery was still being finished in the early and I mean early hours of the morning of the day it was to be exhibited. Ray Hamilton didn't go to bed at all.

The layout was transported to exhibitions in the backs of 2 Hillman Imps or on the back of a Milk Float, if the trip was not too far. The pictures above show a young Dave Fryer and Ray Hamilton at the High Wycombe Young Adult Centre and Beaconsfield exhibition in 1973.

We were invited to the 1973 NMRA -BR Great Yarmouth convention and displayed the layout over the weekend meet.

The layout was such a success (it may have been Ray Hamilton's wine - he called it Bunker C) that once again the early hours of the morning played a part as a group of differing scale modeller were caught racing 0-6-0 dock shunters along the three mainlines that ran along the front of the layout. We were caught by the strong arm of the law, a policeman, who wandered into the hotel off of his nightly watch to investigate the noise. He stayed for some considerable time joining in with the fun before returning to his duties at about 3am. The assembled few lasted about a hour later and eventually went to bed leaving a lasting memory in everyone's mind.

Yes you could say big boys and their toys but we all though that MODEL RAILWAYS are FUN!

We would like to Dedicate this Page to the memory of

Ray Hamilton

without his initial inspiration, American N scale / Ntrak would not be what it is today here in the UK.
